Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property Alumni Association of Tongji University Officially Established

On May 16, 2026, the Inaugural Meeting of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property Alumni Association, Tongji University, was held in Lecture Hall 1002 of Zhonghe Building on Tongji University's Siping Road Campus. The event was attended by Qin Wenzhong, Party Secretary of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property; Professor Cong Lixian, Dean of the College; Professor Shan Xiaoguang, the College's Founding Dean; Lin Min, Deputy Director of the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development; members of the College's leadership team; faculty representatives; and alumni representatives. The meeting was chaired by Vice Dean Xie Yan.

The meeting officially commenced with the solemn singing of the National Anthem of the People's Republic of China. All participants stood in respect, creating a dignified yet celebratory atmosphere.

Qin Wenzhong, Party Secretary of the College, delivered the opening remarks. He expressed the hope that alumni would work together to advance the College's continued success and make greater contributions to strengthening intellectual property protection and promoting high-quality economic and social development.

Professor Cong Lixian, Dean of the College, presented a report on the College's development, covering its history, faculty, talent cultivation, research achievements, and future strategic direction.

Speaking on behalf of the alumni, Li Wenhong, a doctoral graduate from the Class of 2019, reflected on the significance of the Alumni Association. He remarked that the Association is more than an organization—it is a spiritual home to which graduates can always return and a bond that transcends geographical boundaries and professional sectors.

Representing the College's international alumni, Iago Camilo de Sousa shared his academic journey from Brazil to the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property. He expressed his hope of serving as a bridge within the international alumni community and carrying forward the spirit of mutual support and shared progress.

Professor Shan Xiaoguang, the College's Founding Dean, addressed the meeting on behalf of the faculty. He encouraged alumni to continue upholding the Tongji spirit, excel in their respective fields, actively contribute to China's national intellectual property strategy and the development of the global intellectual property governance system, and support the continued advancement of both the College and the intellectual property profession.

The meeting reviewed and adopted the Working Rules of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property Alumni Association, Tongji University, which define the Association's nature, mission, organizational structure, and operating mechanisms. The inaugural Council of the Alumni Association was also elected. Following the first Council meeting, Professor Shan Xiaoguang was elected Honorary President, Professor Cong Lixian was elected President, and Li Wenhong was elected Executive President.

On behalf of Tongji University,Lin Min , Deputy Director of the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, formally presented the Association's official flag, bearing the name "Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property Alumni Association, Tongji University," to Li Wenhong, Executive President of the inaugural Council, amid warm applause from the audience.

Ms. Lin Min then extended congratulations on behalf of the Tongji University Alumni Association. She reaffirmed the Office of Alumni Affairs and Development's full support for the Association and wished the College continued success in achieving its goal of becoming a world-class intellectual property institution with Chinese characteristics.

The meeting concluded with all participants standing to sing the Tongji University Anthem, bringing the inaugural ceremony to a successful close in an atmosphere of unity and celebration.

The establishment of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property Alumni Association marks a new stage in the institutionalization, standardization, and organizational development of the College's alumni affairs. With the collective support of its alumni, the Association is expected to serve as an effective bridge between alumni and the College, strengthen alumni engagement, carry forward the Tongji spirit, and contribute its collective wisdom and expertise to the College's continued development and to China's efforts to become a leading nation in intellectual property.
