The First Asia Intellectual Property Data Science Workshop was successfully held

On March 11, 2021, the first Asia Intellectual Property Data Workshop, jointly organized by the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property, Tongji University and the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, University of Tokyo, was successfully held via online conference.

Professor Song Xiaoting, Secretary of the Party Committee of SICIP, and Dr. Kazuyuki Motohashi, Professor of the University of Tokyo and Associate Editor-in-Chief of Research Policy, delivered welcoming speeches to the workshop, highlighting the significance of IP data for the study of innovation and IP systems in Asia. The main focus of this year's workshop was to share experiences in building IP data in Asian countries such as China, Japan, India, Thailand, and the research results developed based on the data. Participants shared research findings on the impact of IP regime change on innovation, business IP strategies, and IP operations in the information & communication and pharmaceutical industries, based on empirical analysis of Asian IP data.

The workshop was also attended by Professor Sunil Mani, Director of the Indian Institute of Development Studies and Chair of the RBI, and foreign scholars from the University of Tokyo, Hitotsubashi University, National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, and Thammasat University, as well as scholars from Zhejiang University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Sun Yat-sen University, Xiamen University, and Chongqing University in China.

The conference was hosted by the IP Big Data Lab of Tongji University.
