SICIP Successfully Held the Training Course on Biopharmaceutical Technology Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection

From September 18 to 20, 2020, the training course on Biopharmaceutical Technology Innovation and Intellectual Property Protection, supported by the Personnel Department of the National Intellectual Property Administration of China (CNIPA), organized by the National Intellectual Property Training (Shanghai) Base, Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University, and co-organized by the Pharmaceutical Intellectual Property Committee of the China Health Law Society, was successfully held in Shanghai. 84 representatives from biopharmaceutical companies, law firms, patent agencies, universities, and other intellectual property-related fields participated in this course. Prof. Song Xiaoting, the director of the National Intellectual Property Training (Shanghai) Base, and Associate Professor Yu Xinmiao, the deputy dean of Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University, attended the opening ceremony and delivered speeches. Ms. Lin Min, the Deputy Chairman of College Council, SICIP, and Associate Professor Jiang Nan, the Deputy Dean of SICIP, attended and presided over the closing ceremony.

Prof. Song Xiaoting, the Director of the Pharmaceutical Law and Intellectual Property Research Center of Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University, Associate Professor Cao Lirong, Associate Professor Jiang Li, Mr. Zhang Qingkui, the former Head of the Pharmaceutical and Biological Invention Examination Department of the National Intellectual Property Administration, Mr. Cheng Yongshun, the head of Beijing Intellectual Property Institute,  the former Vice chief and senior judge of the Intellectual Property Division of the Beijing High People’s Court, Dr. Chen Shaoxiong, the Vice President and Secretary-General of the Shanghai BioPharmaceutics Industry Association, Mr. Tang Zhen, the vice chief of the Intellectual Property Division of the Shanghai High People’s Court, and Ms. Li Caihui, Mr. Wang Weibin, Mr. Wang Kuiyu, Mr. Wu Chunhua, Mr. Meng Xiangming and other Intellectual Property Practice Elites from corporates gave lectures.

Associate Professor Yu Xinmiao, the deputy dean of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University, presided over the opening meeting of this training course and extended a warm welcome to all guests.


Prof. Song Xiaoting, the Deputy Chairman of College Council, SICIP, and the Director of the National Intellectual Property Training (Shanghai) Base, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.




Mr. Zhang Qingkui, the former head of the Pharmaceutical and Biological Invention Examination Department of the National Intellectual Property Administration, and the honor chairman of the Intellectual Property Committee of the Pharmaceutical Association, delivered speech on practical knowledge of biopharmaceutical patent examination and confirmation.


Mr. Cheng Yongshun, the chairman of Beijing Intellectual Property Institute, the former deputy chief and senior judge of the Intellectual Property Division of Beijing High People's Court, discussed the extension of drug patent protection duration and drug patent linkage system in the "Patent Law (Second Reading Draft)".



Prof. Song Xiaoting from Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University gave a lecture on the application of artificial intelligence in pharmaceutics and intellectual property issues.


Mr. Chen Shaoxiong, the Vice President and Secretary-General of Shanghai Biopharmaceutics Industry Association, gave a lecture on the development status and trends of China's biomedical industry.



Mr. Tang Zhen, the deputy chief of the Intellectual Property Division of the Shanghai High People's Court, gave a lecture on "Protection of Commercial Secrets for New Drug Research and Development Enterprises".



Ms. Li Caihui, the Senior Director of the Intellectual Property department of Sansheng Guojian Pharmaceutical (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., analyzed the CTLA4-lg patent breaking and layout through cases in practice.



Mr. Wang Weibin, a partner of Shanghai Beshining Law Firm, introduced patent rights and patent rights system, Chinese patent types and application procedures, patent application authorization, and other knowledge with the theme of "Patent Protection and Layout Strategies in the Field of Biopharmaceutics".



Mr. Wang Kuiyu, a partner of Shanghai Baiyi Intellectual Property Agency Co., Ltd., introduced corporate trademark management from the perspectives of product distinctiveness, trademark coexistence, trademark cancellation, trademark monitoring, trademark and brand unification, and trademark value orientation.



Associate Professor Jiang Li from the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University discussed the importance of biotechnology patent protection from the dispute over gene-editing patents.



Mr. Wu Chunhua, the Director of the Intellectual Property department of Shanghai Fuhong Henlius Biotechnology Co., Ltd., explained patent infringement analysis and due diligence in the biopharmaceutical research and development cycle.



Associate professor Cao Lirong from the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property of Tongji University explained the issue of biopharmaceutics companies' submission of drug authorization applications.



Dr. Xiangming Meng, the CEO of David & Raymond International Patent Group, gave a detailed introduction to the intellectual property dilemmas faced by Chinese pharmaceutical companies under the Sino-US trade war and the strategies to deal with intellectual property disputes.



This training course brought the guests a feast of professional knowledge in pharmaceutical intellectual property rights. During the course, guests and students interacted actively and respond enthusiastically.



The trainees expressed that they have benefited a lot from this course. They not only learned practical experience, but also broadened their vision in the field of biopharmaceutical intellectual property rights.



All the trainees received a certificate of completion issued by the National Intellectual Property Training (Shanghai) Base.
