On May 14, Professor Francis Gurry, former Director-General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), delivered a report titled “International Governance of Technology and Intellectual Property.”
Professor Gurry introduced the international intellectual property protection system, including international treaties for intellectual property protection and relevant international and local organizations involved in knowledge protection. He emphasized that one important role of international organizations is to facilitate the balancing of interests among various stakeholders during the protection of intellectual property. In today’s rapidly changing era, technological innovation and intellectual property protection in related fields have had a profound impact on the global economy and society.
Professor Gurry focused on how the intellectual property system can better regulate issues such as pharmaceutical patents and artificial intelligence, among other hot topics, to promote industry development and enhance social welfare.
This lecture marked the 100th session of the SICIP Lecture Series and was chaired by Dr. Peter Ganea, Deputy Director of the Center for European Innovation Policy and Law at Tongji University.
