2024 Graduation and Degree Awarding Ceremony of Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property and the Seventh Closing Ceremony of WIPO-Tongji Master’s Degree Program and Chinese Government Scholarship Program

On the morning of June 28, 2024, the graduation ceremony for the 2024 cohort of the Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property (SICIP) and the completion ceremony for the 7th WIPO Master’s Program and the “Belt and Road” Master’s Program were grandly held at Tongji University’s Zhonghe Building.  Secretary of the CPC, SICIP, Qin Wenzhong, Excutive Dean Yu Xinmiao, all faculty members of the college, nearly a hundred graduates, international program students, and their family and friends attended the ceremony, and it was hosted by Deputy Secretary of the CPC, SICIP, Lin Min.

Ms. Wang Ying, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of the National Intellectual Property Administration, delivered a speech. She introduced the origins and development of the “Belt and Road” Intellectual Property Master’s Degree Education Program and put forward three hopes for the students: to become experts in the field of intellectual property, to become ambassadors of friendship, and to become supporters and promoters of the “Belt and Road” initiative.

Ms. Martha Chikowore, Executive Program Manager of Academic and Management Programs at WIPO Academy, deliverd a speech and expressed her belief that intellectual property can facilitate global green innovation and sustainable development. She highly recognized the achievements of the WIPO-Tongji University Master’s Program in Intellectual Property Law and extended sincere blessings to the graduates and students, thanking them for their passion, dedication, and creativity in the field of intellectual property. She hoped that they would continue to advance in the field, becoming more specialized and proficient in protecting intellectual property.

Mr. Yu Chen, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, delivered a speech. He emphasized the measures Shanghai has taken in recent years to cultivate intellectual property talent, continuously innovating and improving talent development mechanisms and systems. He acknowledged SICIP’s achievements in nurturing intellectual property talent, providing Shanghai and the nation with a pool of international, multi-disciplinary talent. He encouraged the students to grow into idealistic, broad-minded, and professionally skilled intellectual property experts.

Excutive Dean Yu Xinmiao once again congratulated the graduates and program completers. The college has fully embarked on a new journey aimed at addressing the new technological revolution and industrial transformation, fostering interdisciplinary integration, and reforming global governance. It gathers top-notch faculty from around the world and strives to explore new paths for talent cultivation and discipline development. The college has established the RICH comprehensive learning system, which is oriented towards industry needs, characterized by international networking integration, and aimed at comprehensive intellectual property education and high-end practical capability training. This system aims to cultivate high-level intellectual property talent who are rooted in China, possess an international perspective, and contribute to the construction of a strong intellectual property nation, and it has already begun to show results. He sincerely hopes that everyone will continue to be diligent and committed to lifelong learning and wishes everyone success in becoming experts in the field of intellectual property and wise figures in cross-cultural communication.

This year, the college has a total of 7 doctoral graduates and 70 master’s graduates (including 4 international students), and 46 students from the WIPO Master’s Program and the “Belt and Road” Master’s Program (including 15 international students) who have successfully completed the first phase of the English course curriculum and received their certificates of completion. Four student representatives gave speeches: Jiang Qimeng, a 2020 Ph.D. graduate; Chen Junpu, a 2021 master's graduate; Vong Chanraksa, a 2023 WIPO-Tongji University Master's in Intellectual Property Law program student; and Judith Thobakgale, a 2023 Belt and Road Master's in Intellectual Property program student.




The student representatives expressed their gratitude to CNIPA, WIPO, the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration, the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Tongji University, and SICIP for providing learning opportunities, rich course content and formats, and the chance to interact with renowned intellectual property experts and professors. They mentioned that the college frequently organizes visits to CNIPA, WIPO China Office, and famous Chinese enterprises, which deepened their understanding of the importance and complexity of intellectual property and clarified their future career goals. The international student representatives also noted that the programs offered not only intellectual property-related content but also opportunities to understand China more comprehensively, helping them integrate into Chinese culture. Finally, they wished all graduates success in applying their knowledge, facing challenges, and creating a bright future of innovation, cooperation, and mutual respect.

Deputy Secretary of the CPC, SICIP, Lin Min, announced the list of outstanding graduates from Shanghai and Tongji University. Secretary of the Party Committee, Qin Wenzhong, awarded them certificates. In 2024, Jiang Qimeng, Chen Junpu, Zhang Yu, and Huang Zhiming from our academy were named outstanding graduates of Shanghai. Dan Hao, Yang Zhuoxin, Li Bonian, and Chen Xue'ni were named outstanding graduates of Tongji University.


Deputy Dean Jiang Nan announced the list of 2024 Ph.D. and master's graduates. Excutive Dean Yu Xinmiao, Professor Xu Chunming, Professor Song Xiaoting, Professor Zhu Xuezhong, and Professor Mao Hao together performed the tassel-turning ceremony for the students.

 

Deputy Dean Dang Jianwei announced the list of students who completed their programs. Professors Jiang Nan, Cheng Deli, Ren Shengce, and Chang Xuhua together awarded the certificates of completion to the students.
