With 10th anniversary of Tongji Intellectual Property Institute, 2013 Tongji Global Intellectual Property Forum was held in Siping Campus of Tongji University on December 3-4. IP experts from China and abroad as Germany, Italy, the US and Canada gathered here to discuss the topic for forum- ‘IP and Sustainable Development’.
Prof. Dr. Tian Lipu, commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office and honorary Dean of Tongji Intellectual Property Institute; Prof. Dr. Peter Meier-Beck, presiding judge of Patent Division, Bundesgerichtshof (German Federal Court of Justice), Germany; Prof. Dr. Joseph Straus, former director of Max Planck Institute for IP and Competition Law, Germany and honorary dean of Tongji Intellectual Property Institute; Prof. Dr. Jiang Bo, vice president of Tongji University; Prof. Dr. Wu Handong, honory director of China Intellectual Property Society and President of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law; and Prof. Dr. Lv Guoqiang, director of Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration attended and addressed, and expressed admiration for 10 years’ development of Tongji IP Institute.
Prof. Dr. Tian Lipu expressed in his speech: along with IP’s rapid growth in China, Tongji IP Institute has achieved new development and continuous progress, and is standing at the front-runner status at home and abroad. He believed the institute would embrace broader space for development. He added that State Intellectual Property Office would give continuous support to Tongji IP Institute, and hoped new development of faculty and students for greater contribution to China and world IP fields.
Prof. Dr. Jiang Bo firstly expressed appreciation for the support of all parties to Tongji IP Institute, and added that intellectual property subject occupied an important position in the long term development plan of Tongji University, and university has already arranged ‘Intellectual Property’ as a priority subject of humanities and society subjects. He ended his speech with hoping the continuous support and help to Tongji IP Institute.
Prof. Dr. Wu Handong expressed in his speech: along with the boom of IP industry in China, Tongji IP Institute has watched its great development for 10 years, and is standing at key position in China IP field. He said that strengthening intellectual property use and protection would be a focal point for China’s IP strategy in the future. He added that IP should have effective use for practical productive forces, and should have effective protection to offer safe system and space for innovative development.
Prof. Dr. Shan Xiaoguang, Dean of Tongji Law School, expressed that IP subject was getting more important, and IP has become strategic resources for: the strengthening of national economy, technological prowess and international competitiveness; protection of national interests and economic safety. He added that the accelerating trend of IP globalization made IP become important components for International cooperation and exchange of technology, economy, trade, culture, etc. He said ‘Tongji Glabal IP Forum’ kept in step with IP development trend in the world, and the forum was focusing important subjects as: IP and sustainable development, IP and technology transfer, trade secret, enterprise IP strategy, IP’s effect on economy, etc.
During the meeting, Mr. Qu Xiaoyang, director of Corporate Intellectual Property, Siemens (China), and Prof. Dr. Zhu Xuezhong, Director of Tongji Intellectual Property Institute had cooperation agreement signing ceremony.
