“WIPO and B&R IP Talents Training Seminar” Held at SICIP of Tongji University

On the afternoon of March 6, 2018, the “WIPO and B&R Intellectual Property Talents Training Seminar” was held at Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property (SICIP) of Tongji University. Ms. Wang Xiaoyun (Deputy Director of the InternationalCooperation Department of the State Intellectual Property Office), Ms. Zhang Yaning, (Head of the International Cooperation Departmentof the SIPO), Mr. Wang Jianjian, (International Cooperation Department Officer of the SIPO), Mr. Li Linfeng (Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of the Shanghai Intellectual Property Administration), Prof. Lei Xinghui (Vice President of Tongji University), Prof. Shan Xiaoguang (Dean of SICIP), Mr. Li Jianchang (General Branch SecretaryoftheCPC), Prof. Zhu Xuezhong (Vice Dean of SICIP), Prof. Yu Xinmiao (Vice Dean of SICIP), and Prof. Xu Ming attended the meeting.

Discussion on the teaching, school system, and admission issues of the B&R MIP Program.

On behalf ofTongji University, Vice PresidentProf.Lei Xinghui welcomed Deputy DirectorMs.Wang Xiaoyun and her delegation to visit and provide guidance. He expressed his gratitude to the InternationalCooperation Departmentof theSIPO for long-term support. He believed that in the context of national innovation-driven development, the intellectual propertydisciplineof Tongji University has made considerable progress in recent years, relying on the traditional engineering disciplines advantages and international advantages of the University. Under the background of the new era and the guidance of the19th CPCNational Congress,TongjiUniversity will further emphasize the development of intellectual property discipline and provide international intellectual property talents for Shanghai to build an intellectual property center in Asia Pacific and forthe intellectualpropertystrategy of China.

Ms.Wang Xiaoyun andMs.Zhang Yaning had an in-depth discussion with teachers fromtheSICIP on issues including teaching, school system and enrollment, and fully affirmed the projects undertaken by the college. They hope that on the basis of a good start,theSICIP will further explore the cultivation mode of intellectual property personnel and provide a solid force for international intellectual property personnel.

After that, Deputy DirectorMs.Wang Xiaoyun and the delegation met with students of the WIPO-Tongji MIP in Design Program and the B&RMIPProgram. They showed care for the students' study and living conditions and stated their expectation of the students’ future study. The students reported their learning achievements in China.

The cultivation of intellectual property personnel has always been the focus of SICIP by means of inviting international intellectual property scholars, judges, and lawyers while teaching and providing discussion platform in international intellectual property totheWIPO andtheB&R Program students. It is a feature of SICIP to integrate Chinese culture into teaching, and the purpose is for international students to not only learn intellectual property system in China, but also promote China’s intellectual property experience globally, thus providing space for China to participate in the formulation of international intellectual property policies. In addition, the SICIP will develop its interdisciplinary Doctoral Programme in Intellectual Property by the approval of the Chinese Ministry of Education, whose recruitment will start in this September.
