WIPO-Invited Expert Bernard Volken Giving Lectures in SICIP

From November 26 to 29, 2019, WIPO-invited expert Bernard Volken (Partner in a Swiss law firm) came to SICIP for teaching of the course Design Law. He gave lectures systematically concerning the EU protection rules for industrial design and the international registration system established under the Hague Agreement concerning International Registration of Industrial Design for students enrolled in WIPO-Tongji Master of Intellectual Property with specification in Design. Apart from giving lectures, Mr. Volken adopted diversified teaching methods, such as dividing students into groups to propose strategy for filing international registration of a certain product under the Hague system. Each group presented their plan and strategy.


In addition to the course lectures, Mr. Volken also gave a speech entitled International Trademark Filing and Enforcement Strategy to all SICIP students. Through vivid cases, he introduced the layout of enterprises filing application for international trademark registration and the strategy of preventing trademark infringement in detail, and had a heated discussion with the students on trademark application and registration, industrial design protection and other issues. The speech was presided over by Associate Professor Jerry Jie Hua of SICIP.
