On October 19, 2019 Tongji Workshop on China-EU Innovation and Competition was successfully held at Shanghai International College of Intellectual Property (SICIP). The workshop brought together renowned experts from Max Plank Institute (MPI) for Innovation and Competition, Humboldt University of Berlin, Munich University, University of Zurich, Queen’s University Belfast, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Wuhan University, University of International Business and Economics, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences and Tongji University, and respected judges from the German Federal Patent Court and the IP Court of the Supreme People’s Court of China (SPC), as well as professional lawyers from KEIS Law, Dentons Law Office and Unitalen Attorneys at Law, etc. The faculty members, researchers and students of SICIP also attended the workshop.

The theme of this year’s workshop was “Data, IP and Antitrust”, around which the participants shared their cutting-edge research and profound insights. For example, Ms. Beate Schmidt, President of the German Federal Patent Court and Dr. Li Zhu, senior judge from IP Court of the Supreme People’s Court of ChinaPC introduced the representative judicial attitudes to data protection in Germany and China respectively. Meanwhile, Prof.essor Dietmar Harhoff, directordean of MPIax Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition, Prof. Axel Metzger from Humboldt University of Berlin, Prof.essor Xianlin Wang, Prof.essor Lizhi Ning, Prof.fessor Zhongfa Ma and Prof.essor Zhongmei Wang from Chinese Universities and academic Institution as well as other speakers also made thought-provoking speeches regarding the theme. The workshop was moderated by professors from SICIP, and the audience participated in the discussion actively.

As one of the founding members of the WINIPe (WIPO International Network for Intellectual Property Education), SICIP puts great efforts to develop a world-class platform of IP education and research, which is also the motivation of the Tongji Workshop on China-EU Innovation and Competition. With the participants’ foresight research and thorough dialogues, the workshop deepens everyone's understanding of “Data, IP and Antitrust”.
